Getting to Byron Bay

PLANE

Byron Bay sits a hop, skip, and a jump away from two key regional airports which shuttle regular flights from most of Australia’s major cities; Ballina Byron Gateway Airport (25 minutes south) and the Gold Coast Airport (a 45 minute drive north from Byron Bay).

CAR

Thanks to a bounty of upgraded highways, the road trip to Byron Bay from some of the country’s capitals is a popular way to travel. Byron sits 8 hours north of Sydney, and 2 hours south of Brisbane, or around 1.5 hours from the Gold Coast.

OTHER

Jump on the train - there’s one direct from Sydney which takes 15 hours, or a one hour(ish) train from Brisbane to Varsity Lakes on the Gold Coast. It’s there you can grab a bus and head further south. Greyhound Australia offers regular coaches from major cities, with a population of devoted express buses booming.
